Satsuki is the strong and caring older sister of Mei. She takes care of Mei while their mother is in the hospital and never doubts her little sister's story about the totoros.

Although Satsuki is often put in charge of Mei, she doesn't lose her childhood sense of wonder and delight. --And unlike most children her age, she never resents caring for her younger sibling.
